News : Oyo celebrates silver Jubilee of Frs Patrick Oladele, Paul Awowole and Bishop John Oyejola

Saturday, 15th of October, 2016 was a special day at Our Lady of the Assumption Catholic Cathedral, Asogo, Oyo as the Catholic Bishop of Oyo, Most Revd Emmanuel Adetoyese Badejo, the Bishop Emeritus, Most Revd Julius Babatunde Adelakun, the Monsignori, Rev. Frs., male and female religious of different congregations and the entire people of God gathered to celebrate their heroes in faith; who have been working in the vineyard of the Lord for the past twenty-five (25) years. It was also an occasion to welcome Most Revd John Akin Oyejola back home since he became the Catholic bishop of Osogbo.

During his homily, Rev. Fr. Dr. Francis Femi Oladiipo said that the celebrants have strived under the guidiance of the Holy Spirit to form people, guide them in the way of the Lord, helping the poor and the less privileged in the society and building and developing the temporal goods of the Church. According to him, many Seminarians who passed through them testified to the fact that they were made better after working with them. At the moment, Rev. Fr. Patrick Oladele is working as a Spiritual Director at the Catholic Major Seminary of Saints Peter and Paul, Bodija, Ibadan; Rev. Fr. Paul Awowole is the Cathedral Administrator at St. Benedict Catholic Cathedral, Osogbo while Most Revd Dr John Akin Oyejola was ordained and installed the Catholic bishop of Osogbo Diocese on the 30th June, 2016. They all have been obedient to the Authority of the Church and are serving God in humanity with all their strength.

Representing the celebrants, Most Revd John Oyejola gave thanks to God for making the day a reality because it is not human making but God’s. He dedicated the day to the Bishop Emeritus of Oyo who by the grace of God during his time, one Archbishop and two other Bishops have emerged under him. He encouraged youths to embrace priestly vocation for there, they will find happiness and joy in the Lord and he prayed for the peaceful repose of the soul of Rev. Fr. Abayomi Adeniji, the fourth priest ordained with them.

The Chief Host, Most Revd Emmanuel Badejo gave thanks to God for His faithfulness and love over Oyo diocese, the priests, religious and the faithful. He went back to the history of the bishops of Oyo diocese from Bishop Owen McCoy, Anthony Cardinal Olubunmi Okogie, Bishop Babatunde Adelakun, Archbishop Gabriel 'Leke Abegunrin, Bishop Emmanuel Badejo and Bishop John Oyejola. It is only Oyo diocese who has produced this number of Bishops including Archbishop and Cardinal in this part of the country he added. He further thanked the priests present from the Seminary, Rev. Frs Francis Adesina (Rector, SS Peter and Paul), Adedara, Famoriyo, the Priests and religious from Oyo Diocese, Osogbo diocese and Ibadan Archdiocese, the families of the celebrants, the Catechists, Prayer Leaders, Choir, Altar Servers and the all the lay faithful present and he rained God’s blessings on all.

After all, there was a reception with presentations and gifts given to the celebrants. It was a joyful day.
