The Catholic Church all over the world is celebrating this Year 2017 the Marian Year and the Centenary - Year - Anniversary of Our Lady's apparitions at Fatima. Pope Francis has declared this celebration to hold between 27th November, 2016 - 26th November, 2017.
The Catholic Diocese of Oyo under the Leadership of Most Revd Emmanuel Adetoyese Badejo has also joined the rest of the Catholics in the World and particularly in Nigeria to celebrate worthily our Mother Mary and her role in the Economy of our salvation. The theme chosen by the diocese is: AND MARY SAID: "THEY HAVE NO WINE" - John 2:3. Novena Prayers with daily recitation of Rosary has already commenced in the parishes.
However, the Diocese will formally kick-start the celebration between Friday 19TH - Saturday 20TH of May with Inaugural Ceremony. At this occasion, the Bishop, Priests, Religious and the lay faithful from the nooks and crannies of the Diocese will gather at Ogbomoso township. The programme will commence at 3:00pm on Friday at Soun's palace for introductory note and prayers, from where Candle light procession will be taken to the Venue: Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, Maryland, Ogbomoso. The overnight Inaugural programme will feature Holy Mass, Rosary prayer, Confession, Marian Musical Concert, Powerful Doctrinal Teachings, Catchesis, Drama/Hymn Presentations, Intercessory Prayers, and a lot more.
Meanwhile, the following are the other mapped out events by the Diocese for the the Year:
Wednesday 31st: Rosary Procession in all parishes and talk on the topic: THE ROLE OF MARY IN ECONOMY OF SALVATION/MARY AS A VIRGIN AND ALWAYS A VIRGIN.
Monday 12th - Wednesday 14th: Participation in the National Opening Seminar at Calabar.
Youth seminar and Marian Year for the Youth.
-Daily recitation of Rosary in all parishes
- Thursday 12th - Saturday 14th: Participation in the National Congress in Benin City.
- Tuesday 31st: Rosary procession to the town by every parish and talk on the topic: WHY IS MARY BEING HONOURED/MAKING PIOUS SOCIETIES VIBRANT IN OYO DIOCESE: THE WAY TO GO.
Friday 8th - Saturday 9th: Closing of the Marian Year at Oke-Maria, Tede.
