“Joy to the world the Lord has come…”
This was the prevalent song coming out from the mouth of the Catholic Women Organization in Oyo Zone of the Catholic Diocese of Oyo as they celebrated their annual Christmas Carol with the Bishop and the Priests of Oyo Zone. The event which took place at the Bishop Court started at 3:30pm. As the name ‘carol’ itself depicts – a dance song or a circle dance accompanied by singing, the women who converged from different Parishes in Oyo Zone at the Bishop court expressed their immense joy and profound gratitude to God as they rendered different traditional Christmas Hymns and Choruses. Interestingly, with the interventions from Catholic Men Organization (CMO) who also rendered different melodious Carol hymns at the Carols service, the celebrations reached its peak to the amazement of all and sundry.
It is cognizant to note that, in accordance with Catholic Tradition, the word of God plays an inestimable part in any Liturgical assembly, hence, the Gospel of Matthew 2:7-12 was reflected upon. In his reflection, the Dean of Oyo Deanery, Very Rev. Fr. Thomas Kehinde Ajayi, drew the attention of all the people present to the prominent features of the season which include: peace, humility, unity, serenity, love just to mention but a few. He enjoined all to take a leave from the Holy Family to strive strenuous wherever we find ourselves to live out peace, love, humility, unity and other good virtues exhibited by the Holy Family. By and large, the Carol was round off with the closing remarks of the Bishop, Most Rev. Dr. Emmanuel Adetoyese Badejo who commended the efforts of the members of Catholic Women Organization for their tireless effort in ensuring the growth of the Organization in the Diocese and he urged them to forge ahead. He went further to challenge them to be harbingers of joy, happiness and peace most especially at this joyful season. Thereafter, the closing prayer was said and the Bishop gave the final blessing.
