Oyo diocese recorded another landmark in Education as the Bishop performed the official Opening of the permanent site of St Michael Catholic College, Okeho on Friday 10th of October 2014.
The historic exercise commenced with Holy Mass celebrated by the Local Ordinary of the Diocese, Most. Rev. Emmanuel Adetoyese Badejo and ably assisted by Msgr E. Yakubu and Diocesan Education Secretary, Fr .Boniface Wuraola with other Six Co-Celebrated Priests and Four Catechists. Fr Solomon Oke, the Chaplain of the School welcomed everybody (Bishop, Priests, and Lay Faithful) for their attendance at the Programme.
Fr Boniface Wuraola in his homily expressed sincere appreciation to the Creator of the Universe for making the day a reality. He extended his appreciation to the Bishop of the Diocese for his untiring efforts to see Students enjoying learning in a serene environment. In a message received on the 1st of October, where it is said that we should pray for our Nation, that our Nation is indeed sick and needs healing. He further stressed that the ailing country needs prompt attention. Some areas such as Bribery, Kidnapping, and Epidemics like; Ebola and HIV/AIDS, insurgencies like Boko Haram and Fulani rob, at the middle belt, all are the aftermath of the takeover of. The establishment of mission schools would surely help to bring back sound morals and academic excellence. Ignorance would be reduced to the lowest ebbs.
In a related development, the homelist asked some question on the involvement of government on education, how many schools has the government built for the past Eight Years? and has it been funding the schools adequately? He then salutes for the support of all stakeholders, and everyone in the funding of the schools. Kudos was given to the Bishop for the support of education in Oyo Diocese. The statistics of the schools was given the education secretary as followed; thirteen nursery and Primary Schools and Eight Secondary Schools with the 78% located at the Oke-Ogun Axis of Oyo Diocese. Huge success is being rewarded yearly in all their examinations. Parents and Teachers were charged to diligent in their duties as the success is for all. Also, the parishioners of St. Michaels Catholic Church were commended for their contributions towards making the day a reality. History has been made by all that were present said the homilist.
Eucharistic celebration followed. After which the blessing rites of the new site of the college was performed by the Very Rev. Fr. John Alayande after the tape has been cut by the Bishop, Most Rev. (Dr.) E.A Badejo. The Bishop later expressed his appreciation and heartfelt gratitude to all and for a moment asked to pray for Late Chief Michael Idowu who spearheaded the supervision of the buildings. He also thanked the SSMA Sisters, Staffs and Students. In the same vein the principal of the school Rev Sr. Magret Ogbebor S.S.MA also appreciated everyone present. After the Mass, reception followed immediately which features various presentations by the students of the school, while the Parents, invited guests and all who present donated generously for the continuous development and growth of the school. It was indeed a remarkable day in the life of Okeho Community and the whole Diocese at large.
