The Catholic diocese of Oyo ordained two of their valuable sons into the order of deaconate at St Paul Catholic Church Itasa on the 20th of October 2014.

This historic exercise was performed by the Bishop of the Diocese, in the person of Most Rev. Emmanuel Adetoyese Badejo. The exercise began with a procession, of the entire functionaries in the liturgy, priests and the Bishop. The Bishop welcomed everybody and thanked the good Lord for what he’s doing in the life of the Diocese in the course of the week and the month with different events and the ones that are still coming. After the Gospel reading, the rite of ordination began with the calling of the candidates which was done by the Priest of the Parish, Fr Jerome Ogunleye which was followed by homily.

The homilist, Fr Samson Ojo, who is also the Vocation Director of the Diocese, admonished us from the reading of the day. He then told us that the two duties or functions of a Deacon are to assist the Bishop and also to preach the Gospel all over the world. He told the ordinands that they should do their work diligently so that their name will be written in the book of life. He also stressed the need for families to support and assist them in their duties and not to disturb them. He told the ordinands to go to the whole world and preach the Gospel of Christ. He further stressed the need for more candidates into the priesthood because the harvest is much but the labourers are few.

After the homily, the rite of diaconate ordination followed and after the candidates had been ordained, the celebration of Holy Eucharist began which was later followed by a general thanksgiving. The Bishop expressed his heartfelt gratitude to everyone present at the occasion. Then the Holy Mass was brought to a close with a closing blessing by the Chief celebrant, the Bishop of the Diocese.
