The Bishop, Most Rev Emmanuel Adetoyese Badejo , Clergy ,Religious and Lay faithful of Oyo diocese were in a joyous mood on Tuesday 4th of November, 2014 as they celebrated the 80th birthday of the Bishop Emeritus , Most Rev Julius Babatunde Adelakun at Our Lady of The Assumption Catholic Cathedral, Asogo ,Oyo. 

At the beginning of the Mass of thanksgiving to God, the celebrant, Bishop J B Adelakun was grateful to God for keeping him alive up to the present moment.

The homilist Rev Fr Paul Awowole from St Benedict Catholic Cathedral, Osogbo thanked the good Lord for what he had done for Bishop Adelakun by keeping him alive up till the moment. He also appreciated the celebrant for the good work he was able to accomplish as a Bishop both in the old Oyo diocese and new Oyo diocese respectively .The homilist continued by admonishing the lay faithful that when we celebrate birthdays, we are celebrating life, since our birthday was the day we took our place on the stage where human drama is all the time being enacted. Birth is a great event, a constantly renewed miracle. He also narrated the achievements of Bishop Adelakun both in the old Oyo Diocese (which included the now Osogbo diocese) and the new Oyo diocese. He concluded his homily by thanking baba Adelakun and praying for him. 

            The Holy Eucharistic celebration was followed immediately by a general thanksgiving during which everyone present danced to the melodious songs of the choir. After the thanksgiving, the celebrant appreciated everyone present for their love and care, likewise the Archbishop of Ibadan Metropolitan see, Most Rev. Gabriel Leke Abegunrin did the same .In the same vein, the Bishop of Oyo diocese thanked and appreciated everyone present.

Present at the 80th Birthday thanksgiving Mass were the Emeritus Archbishop of Ibadan, Most Rev. Felix Alaba Job, Bishop Emeritus of Ekiti and Ondo, Bishops Fagun and Alonge, the Archbishop of Ibadan Metropolitan see Most Rev Gabriel Leke Abegurin , the Bishop of Ekiti and Abeokuta Dioceses, Bishops Ajakaye and Odetoyinbo, with about 85 priests from Oyo, Osogbo, Ibadan, Ekiti, Ondo, Ilorin ,Ijebu-Ode  dioceses etc, also present were Rev Sisters from different religious congregations and lay faithful across the country.

The thanksgiving Mass was brought to a close with the closing blessing by the celebrant while the reception followed immediately.
