The opening celebration began at 9am with the Holy Mass which was presided over by the Archbishop of the metropolitan see of Ibadan, Most Rev. Dr. Gabriel Abegunrin flanked by the Chief Host, Bishop Emmanuel Ade Badejo and his Vicar, Msgr. Emmanuel Bolaji Yakubu.

In his homily, the Vicar General, welcomed everyone to the memorable celebration and pointed at the donor of the clinic, Dr Abiodun Ogundare and the Imole-Lichtstärke , Help for Nigeria e.V  group as good leaders who are not self-centred and are not like the bad leaders who’s nature is to embezzle public funds; they, instead have brought out from their purse and given to the community. He spoke about how God does his work in a steady and miraculous way while drawing our attentions to spiritual blindness most especially to the needs of others around us. In addition to this, he pointed out that this is one of the ways the Lord has set out to cater for our physical blindness and he continues to open the eyes of the blind and he calls us to do the same.

He concluded his homily by telling parents not to hide the success of our children who are successful believing that if people see their success, they will be killed out of jealousy.

Notable people present at the occasion were, the donors, Dr. Abiodun Ogundare and his wife, Mr. Heinz Verrieth and his wife from Germany, the cultural rulers and members of the Ilora community, the first ten patients (elderly men and women) from the community who received free cataract surgery, Christians from other denominations, Muslims and traditional worshippers.

After the Mass, a reception ceremony with Dr. Yinka Griffin as the Chairman, took place where everyone was enlightened on how the eye clinic came about, we had speeches from the Bishops, the donor, the Matron and Dr. BGK Ajayi who have been part of the history from the onset.

Following this was the cutting of the ribbon and blessing of the clinic by the Archbishop, everyone gave thanks to God for the wonders he continues to perform among us. There were cultural displays and donations from well-wishers.
