CATECHETICAL FAMILY QUIZ 2019.

The Directorate of Religious Education and the Family and Human Life Office of the Catholic Diocese of Oyo celebrated the family week 2019 with the theme : Upholding the dignity of human life from June 17th -23rd. and this was well attended in many Parishes.

For family evangelization purpose, which is meant to gear up the interest of knowing more about the Catholic faith and showcasing it with zeal, there was the Family Quiz Grand finale sponsored by the knights and Ladies of St John international Lagos Grand Commandery. This was a great event with the Bishop of the Diocese, Most Rev Emmanuel Badejo who witnessed the occasion from the beginning to the end.

The sponsors, The Knights and Ladies of St John international Lagos Grand Commandery were there in great numbers with their Grand Knight, Sir Peter Eluyefa KSJ.

The Diocese started the family quiz on Parish level on February 24th 2019 with 118 registered families and graduated to the Deanery level and the winners from the various Deaneries converged for the Grand finale on Saturday June 22nd at the Our Lady of the Assumption Cathedral, Oyo. During her welcome address, the Directress of Religious Education for the Catholic Diocese of Oyo, Sr. Mary Assumpta Taiwo SSMA made it known that the catechetical quiz is meant to showcase our Catholic faith and to encourage families to be familiar with the Church teachings.

Most Rev Emmanuel Badejo, the Catholic Bishop of Oyo emphasized that families have the responsibility of inculcating true faith in her members. He pointed out the fact that the fear of God is fast becoming a thing of the past and so he called on parents who are the first teachers to instill the fear of God in the human society right from home and be courageous to live out the Christian faith.

The family of Mr and Mrs Paul Usulor from St Peter Catholic Church, Sabo got the 1st position with a gift of a generator while the family of Mr and Mrs Boniface Bilewomo from St Joseph Catholic Church Iseyin got the 2nd position with a gift of a Refrigerator and the family of Mr and Mrs Benjamin Olagbenro from St Joseph Catholic Church Iwere Ile got the 3rd position with a gift of Rechargeable Fan and large rechargeable lamp. The family of Mr and Mrs Patrick Ezewumba from St Lawrence Saki got the 4th position with a consolation prize.

All the contestants rose from parish level to the Grand finale got gift items of Bibles, Catechism of the Catholic Church, Know your faith books, Catechisms on family and human life produced by the Episcopal Conference of the Ecclesiastical Province of Ibadan and other home materials useful for the family courtesy of the Knights and Ladies of St John international Lagos Grand Commandery.

In his speech, the Grand Knight in person of Sir Patrick Eluyefa applauded the big turn out of people for the program. He also applauded the great effort regarding evangelization activities of the Bishop, Priests, Religious and other agents of catechesis in the Catholic Diocese of Oyo despite being a mission area which makes work very challenging many a time. He further encouraged families not to shy away from associating with them as Knights of St John international who are soldiers of Christ.

While appreciate the great support and the large turnout of the Catholic faithful of Oyo, the Director of Religious Education, Sr Assumpta congratulated the Local Ordination of Oyo Diocese, Bishop Badejo for this great achievement. She thanked the Sponsors, Knights &Ladies of St John International for helping the family to know more about their faith and for their financial support. Also, she appreciated the presence of Director of Religious Education of Ibadan Archbishop, Rev. Fr Clement Emerue, the Priests, Religious and the entire families presence.
