Sunday 16th of December began the carol chain as the Catholic churches in Oyo area gathered on the field of St Bernardine Owode to have the Oyo Deanery Christmas Carol which featured song presentations by the churches in the Deanery, readings and lessons, drama and Christmas messages. The Dean of the Deanery – Very Rev Fr Boniface Wuraola urged all to rejoice and be glad, sing and dance despite the situation.
The choirs from the St Anthony Ashipa in the Archdiocese of Ibadan and St Benedict Cathedral in Oshogbo Diocese praised the Lord and thrilled the audience together with the Choirs of St Anthony Awe and St Patrick Fiditi of Oyo Diocese at the Inter-Diocesan Carol on Tuesday 18th December at Our Lady of the Assumption Catholic Cathedral, Asogo, Oyo. Rev Fr Peter Akinola, the parish priest of St Joseph, Iwere-Ile gave the Christmas message after which Rev Fr Ferdinand Olabode, the parish priest of St Theresa Ijio rendered a traditional Christmas poem (Ewi). The Bishop appreciated both the invited choirs and the host choirs as he gifted drums to them.
The Carol of the Catholic Women Organization (CWO) of Oyo Deanery came up on Wednesday 19th December at the Bishop’s House as the women all sang carols parish by parish before presenting gifts to the Bishop who in turn presented gifts to them in return. There were special carol presentations by the Catholic Men Organization (CMO) of Christ the King Catholic Church, Isokun and the Children of the Holy Childhood. In his welcome address, Bishop Badejo used prayer filled hymns to pray for the people and encouraged them to dance and sing well as that will mean praying twice to the new born king. Most Rev Julius Adelakun – the Bishop Emeritus of the Diocese also graced the occasion and gave the final blessings.
