ST ANTHONY’S DEVOTION WITH BISHOP BADEJO AT FRANCCO

Tuesday, 15th January, 2019 was a remarkable day at St. Francis Catholic College, Oyo as the proprietor, Most Rev. Emmanuel Badejo made a special but short visit to the school at the invitation of the members of St Anthony of Padua’s society. This society was established in the school during the course of last academic session as part of the effort of the church to promote spiritual formation and growth among the Catholic students. It was also aimed at encouraging young Catholics to embrace and participate actively in Pious societies as many of these societies in our parishes are now made up of elderly people. The decision to propagate this devotion through our Catholic schools, which really is a return to the old method, according to Mr Yomi Afolabi who led the group at the inception was taken at the annual general of the society during the course of the year. Since the establishment of this society it has been the desire of the group to have the Bishop with them and this desire became a reality on on Tuesday, 15th January, 2019. The Bishop came in at about 2.40 pm and immediately joined the prayer meeting. His presence brought indescribable jot into the heart of the students and others at the meeting and this was really visible in the eyes of everybody.
The Bishop, though did not stay till the end of the prayer because of other engagements, he however, stopped over at the principal’s office where he expressed his happiness over what he saw. He also commended the effort of the students and the commitment of the teachers guiding the students at the prayer meeting. He made further observations and suggestions that will be of great help to the spiritual and moral formation of the students. It is his wish that this kind of opportunity be extended to other Catholic schools so as to help the children learn, know and live their faith.
Addressing the Young Catholic Students who were also having their weekly meeting under the tree in front of the principal’s office, he urged them to continue the good work. In his words, they are having opportunities which many of their colleagues in other schools do not enjoy, hence they must appreciate and value it very well. He further urged the principal to think of better way to organize the programmes so as enable other Catholic students to participate in Young Catholic Students programme without losing the opportunity of being members of other devotional groups in the school.
Present at the St. Anthony’s prayer meeting were Mr. Yomi Afolabi, Mama Clara Sanda, Mrs Olaitan Sade, Mr Sagbo Abiodun, Miss C.A. Adelakun who is the Vice Principal of the school and Mrs Oshin F.A. who is the school librarian. More than 50 students attended the prayer meeting.
