MOST REV. JULIUS BABATUNDE ADELAKUN @90 AND MONSIGNORS EMMANUEL YAKUBU AND ANTHONY OLAWUMI @80

    Oyo Diocese Celebrates Bishop Adelakun's 90th Birthday, Monsignors Olawumi and Yakubu at 80.Celebrating the three Patriarchs of the Catholic Diocese of Oyo, The Bishop Emeritus, Most Rev. Julius Babatunde Adelakun, Msgnrs, Anthony Akin Olawumi and Emmanuel Bolaji Yakubu who clocked 90 years and 80 years respectively was a memorable one as guests trooped in to St. Bernadine Catholic Church, Owode, Oyo to celebrate the life of a great man of faith whose life has been a model of emulation, Most Rev. Julius Babatunde Adelakun. Friday, 9th November, 2024 at St Bernadine Catholic Church, Owode Oyo, The Priests, Emeritus Bishops, Bishops, Religious and layfaithful all from the four corners of the South West gathered to celebrate God's faithfulness in the life of the three Patriarchs of the Catholic Diocese of Oyo. Most Rev. John Akin Oyejola, the Catholic Bishop of Osogbo Diocese and the homilist for the day laid emphasis on how Baba Adelakun has lived a dignified, qualified and meaningful life which is worthy of emulation. His simplicity, humility and service to humanity has made him worthy of celebration. Baba Adelakun he said, has been a teacher who of course, produced five bishops who are doing so well in their different dioceses. His life is one of accomplishments and impact which would forever be felt. Birthdays as big as 90 he said, are not just a reminder of passing years but an opportunity for a reflection and thanksgiving to see many good things God has done. He buttressed on his leadership gait which is not by authority but by his exemplary life with selflessness being the center which made him fearless but determined upon his request for Oyo diocese to be created knowing fully well how rural and poor the place could be at the time. Bishop Adelakun among many others, was the initiator of the Catholic Youth Organisation of Nigeria, CYON which showed his deep love for youths and how much he was willing to invest in them. Bishop Adelakun has been a man of the common Man as he promotes quality life and the aid of the widows and the less privileged through the Bishop Adelakun's Foundation, BAF, a foundation which has been in existence for about 20years. Bishop Oyejola further went to congratulate the two Monsignors who clocked 80 years too. He congratulated them specially for the faithful work they have done within the mission and for the mission. Most importantly, their selfless and tireless effort with Bishop Adelakun in the formation of Oyo Diocese. The celebration which started earlier during the week began with the annual celebration with the Special Students of Oyo Special Basic Primary School, Durbar where the Bishop Adelakun Foundation (BAF) members donated essential items to the school, including typewriters, braille wristwatches, and A4 papers. Additionally, the pupils received food and customized vests. The pupils in the bid to celebrate Bishop Adelakun, showcased their talents, defying disabilities and stereotypes with impressive dance and song performances. Their display highlighted the potential and abilities of individuals with disabilities. This continued with a Free Eye Test on Wednesday after which a Birthday Lecture was delivered by one of the Celebrants, Msgnr Emmanuel Yakubu in respect to Bishop Adelakun after which it was concluded with the Sung Vespers later in the evening with Gaudate Night The Holy Mass was celebrated by the Archbishop of Ibadan Archdiocese, His Grace, Most Rev. Gabriel 'Leke Abegunrin and concelebrated by the Catholic Bishop of Osogbo Diocese, Most Rev. John Akin Oyejola with the Bishop of Oyo Diocese, Most Rev. Emmanuel Adetoyese Badejo. Also present were, the Bishop Emeritus of Ilorin Diocese and, Ekiti and Ondo Dioceses, Most Revs. Ayo Maria, Michael Fagun and Francis Alonge respectively, the Archbishop of Lagos Archdiocese, His Grace Bishop Felix Ajakaye of Ekiti Diocese ably represented by Fr Phillips Odesanmi, Bishop Lawani of Ilorin Diocese represented by Rev. Fr Emmanuel Ekundayo, Bishop Peter Odetoyinbo also represented by Fr Sunday Phillips, Bishop Francis Adesina of Ijebu Ode who was represented by Fr Gabriel Ore BISHOP ADELAKUN@90 AND MONSIGNORS YAKUBU AND OLAWUMI@80
